Robbie Olivier went there as a wine drinker — curious, but hardly an expert. Then a driver named Captain Steve convinced him to skip the familiar names and experience Napa a different way: meet the winemakers, sit with the owners, hear their stories, and understand what was actually going into the bottle.
One of those introductions was to winemaker Grant Long Jr.
And something clicked.
“There’s something about this that speaks to my soul.”
What started as an appreciation for great wine became an appreciation for everything behind it — the people, the place, the unpredictability of each vintage, and the stories that make one bottle completely different from the next.
Today, Olivier Family Wines is still built around the same thing that made Robbie fall in love with wine in the first place: knowing where it came from, knowing who made it, and having a story worth sharing when the bottle hits the table. The wines are made in Napa alongside Grant, with Robbie continuing to learn, taste, ask questions and become more involved in the process.
There’s no attempt to pretend he grew up in a vineyard or spent his life studying wine. That’s part of the story.
He came to wine the same way a lot of people do — one bottle, one trip and one great experience at a time.
And somewhere along the way, the guy who just loved drinking good wine ended up putting his own name on the bottle.
Not because he wanted his name on a bottle.
Because he wanted the bottle to mean something.
Over the years, Robbie and Grant stayed connected. Robbie sent friends Grant’s way. Their worlds overlapped. And eventually, they decided to make a barrel together.
Robbie helped create the label. He chose the blue wax. And for the first few years, most of the bottles were simply shared with friends. But the more he learned, the more curious he became.
He didn’t want to simply put his name on someone else’s wine.
He wanted to be part of it.
That idea became Olivier Family Wines.

Olivier Family Wines didn’t begin in a vineyard, with a business plan, or even with the idea of starting a wine label.
It started with a simple trip to Napa Valley.
